Post arg BEN headcanons

(Just pretend like you know how he ended up with the creepypastas)

• most of the pastas know he’s vaguely associated with some type of cult (more info at the bottom)

• BEN’s not like shy or anything about the cult, he just doesn’t bring stuff about his past up unless someone asks directly about it or says something he can add onto

• BEN can’t eat any real food, it has to be code that looks like food

• BEN has no organs, it’s all just wires in there. If you dissected him he’d look like a particle reactor

• Sometimes he’ll say “we” or “us” even though he’s been one being since the glitch (basically all the souls in him just combined)

• He only listens to breakcore and sometimes pretends like he can hear words just to confuse Jeff

• He has his own little section of the cartridge, it’s somewhere under the clocktower and is technically just suspended in the white void Sara all the members got sent to that one time

• The only people who have been in there is Matt and Nekko

• Nekko is to BEN like Sally is to Jeff (basically siblings but closer)

•BEN’s room looks like a computer threw up, wires and old tech everywhere, like 20 computers just stacked around. He has a window that looks out into the void and it’s like super unnerving? Like if you look out it too long your fight or flight response turns on

- Jeff, Liu, and the proxies are the only ones who know he was actually in the cult and played like a huge part in the whole ordeal

*cracks knuckles* I'm busting out the powerpoint for this cuz oooo. I have. A lot of feelings about this boy, so buckle up

So first off, my Ben isn't just Ben. Or BEN, yes there is a difference. My Ben is a hivemind of all the Moon Children that ascended before the events of the ARG and 2 exceptions, so a total of 10 or so people. The more dominant instances are Ben (the first moon child to ascend and the boy that a lot of people think of when they think of Ben), The Behavioral Event Network or BEN (the paranormal, near eldritch entity that does all the mind fuckery and messed up stuff we've seen in the ARG, this is the bitchy one), and Rosa. Ifrit used to be a dominant instance too before he got grounded by the Father for crimes against the group. *Making a quick note here before the cut that while my Ben was not intentioned in any way to be like a system, there are definitely some cases in my headcanons where he could be interpreted that way just from him being a hivemind full of people. While this isnt the intent, it could certainly be read that way*

Now, more under the cut cuz this is a lot

So, talking about the individuals more now:

The Event Network is the beginning of the Hivemind, and the owner and creator of the body they all share. He/they/it was made by Kelbris as a way to create a sort of "immortality" by creating a space where souls could live on in the afterlife, with the hopes that they could still, in a way, live in the real world. This ended up being successful, but not until far after Kelbris has died and ascended himself, and this experiment was "lost" after his death. Lost as in, it developed a mind of its own and lives by its own rules now.

The Event Network is half character, half setting. It's mind is where all the Moon Children reside and live on, with it allowing them to pilot it's body to basically come back to life as something physical in our world. It's body is the body that can be interacted with, injured, spoken to, and holds all the energy and power that keeps the group alive. Damage to the physical body can cause mental and physical trauma to the other Moon Children. Because of this, and its reason for creation being to protect and support the Moon Children residing in it, BEN is hyper protective of it's Moon Children. Every decision it makes and action it does is done so with the thought of it's Moon Children in mind, especially Ben. It is usually the other Moon Children that make the more executive decisions for the lot of them.

Ben Lawman is the human source, I guess you could say. He was the first Moon Child to "ascend", but not the first cultist to. That honor goes to Kelbris, or the Father. But anyways, Ben being the first to ascend means that through him, the majority of the body they all share is sculpted and formed through him by the Event Network. BEN has a very special affinity for Ben since he was the first living thing BEN had ever experienced. You could call it love. So their shared body resembles what Ben wants to look like, it tends to follow Ben's lead on what needs to happen, and Ben is generally the one in charge of them all, with BEN backing him up as an enforcer. The two are borderline synonymous when interacting with him outwardly.

Rosa Hubris is the other one you would be most likely to see. She was one of the last ones to ascend in their group, and ascended against her will. She's the compassionate one, the mediator, the more emotional aspect of their body. In my fic especially, she is the first one to reach out in a non-hostile way and ask for help for the lot of them (She's about to be shown in the next chapter and I'm hella excited, I love her sm guys). Especially for the younger Moon Children, like Insidae or Nekko, shes the other caregiver aside from BEN, the more maternal side for sure. Where BEN is the protector and guardian and gatekeeper for all of them, Rosa is very much the mother and big sister to all of them, and plays a big part in regulating their environment and mental state as a whole.

I won't talk about Ifrit much cuz we don't see him a lot, but what he did is important so. Ifrit, or Matthew Hubris is Rosa's brother. Him, her, and Ben were all friends when they were all still alive, they're the only Moon Children that knew each other before death, aside from Nekko and Insidae being close. Ifrit was a dominant instance before; he was the physical action aspect of the group, the one that presented decisions and fought for them, the one that would charge headfirst into a fight or put determination into a interaction. He is outspoken and stubborn and very much a leader figure even when he wasn't the leader of them. He got power hungry, and ended up turning on them to give himself an opening to basically usurp the Event Network, and was beaten down by it and imprisoned by the Father. He now lies in the subconscious of them all, wiped from all the Moon Children's memories, and stewing in his anger and resentment. He's a force to be reckoned with, but him being pushed down weakens the group as a whole, and he won't stay down forever.

Now . . . the Father. Kelbris was the one that founded the cult, the prophet for the cult, and the creator of the Event Network. BEN regards him like a dad, hence the name the Father, but the other Moon Children know very little about him. After he ascended into the Event Network, he became more like a piece of infrastructure for the body, rather than another character in it. Kelbris acts as the security system for the body, and the ultimate enforcer for the lot of them. BEN listens to Kelbris over Ben, and thats all you really need to know to know that Kelbris's word is law. Thankfully, he is more than content to sit back and let them all fend for themselves, only coming out in very dire instances (like Ifrit being an ass). It guards off different parts of their collective mind to, allowing access when needed or politely requested. Kelbris is somewhat a mythical figure in my fic cuz of how mysterious he is presented to the others. BEN is very picky about information about him, so the other Moon Children regard him as some kind of deity almost, similar to Luna, and it gets passed onto other characters like my protagonist Aubrey, who begin to regard him as much more than he really is, like in here. In truth tho, he really is just. Some guy. He's not a threat, nor is he an all powerful being, nor is he malevolent. He is a guardian, and reactionary to what happens to him, and he only desires to see the longevity of his experiment, something he views like his own child now.

As for the other Moon Children, uhh. Unfortunately I pick favorites 😅 they aren't nearly as developed as these guys rn. Nekko is the baby of the group, hes v much the playful childishness and innocence of Ben, and Insidae is his older brother figure and the levelheaded, all. Dusk is one of the oldest of the group, hes the responsible one and the self control of them all. They all kinda work together to try and be one semi-functional human being, but that shits hard. And then you throw in the two exceptions, Alex and Sarah, the two outsiders that got dragged in for going too deep into the game and the Father snatched them. They don't have any influence on Ben's presentation or mental state though, they're just chilling really.

Now, as for how Ben is physically. Obviously he's not really human. All of them were once human, except for the Event Network, so they know at least how to act human when the need comes up, like remembering how to breathe when they need to blend in, etc. But BEN's body that they control is not human nor organic in any way. The best way I can think to describe it is like, how ig in steven universe, the gem's bodies are like forms of light with a projected appearance. BEN's body is almost crystalline in a way, a weird warm/cool to the touch, and he feels alive with energy but not life. Like his skin has a live wire underneath the surface. Electricity is what keeps him running, but not electricity like from a circuit or a wall outlet, not generated electricity, although he can use that in a pinch. More like the electricity that our neurons make whenever they communicate to make our body function. He can and will still use generated electricity for energy, he will suck on your phone charger when hes worn out and in need of a boost. But its like drinking an energy drink when your exhausted, he works better and more efficiently on his own energy. He can sleep and eat, though he doesn't need to, its more a pleasure in the action and the familiarity of it.

He can be hurt and injured, though its like damaging a robot over a human. His body can crack and shatter, it does hurt him but the pain isn't what inhibits him, its more the physical damage. He cant bleed, his "blood" shows as like glitches and sludge and smoke and its something that's. Very gross and acrid and definitely not human. Almost all of them will recoil back when hit, except for BEN. BEN is usually relatively docile, except for when his Moon Children are involved. He will pull tooth and claw out for his Moon Children and tear anyone to shreds that threatens them.

Ben is still trying to figure out the full scale of what he is capable of. If and when he does, he will be extremely powerful, but its a matter of learning what all he can do, and learning how to control the power he has. He can generate and amplify electrical energy, channel it through his body, pull the electricity from his body and manipulate it in a myriad of ways, etc. In my fic, he definitely is still learning as he goes. Early on, he mostly just knows how to shock or electrocute people, mostly accidentally, or pull electricity from other sources and channel it through himself to power different devices. He learns quickly how to use his energy to sort of shield himself and others, although unstable as it is (it ends up frying people in the circle he makes the first couple of times). The further the story goes, the more he learns; he'll be able to make ball lightning, learn how to affect specific components of electrical devices for different results, learn how to brute force connecting multiple devices, affect wi-fi and Bluetooth connections, and even influence whole power grids. It takes a while though. Because of the sheer amount of damage he can cause, he is often sought out by other demons or enders or what have you for many reasons, so he tends to keep well to his little circle.

As for my fic specifically? Well, we are at the very beginning still, he has been hinted at and is definitely present, but not yet introduced. Rosa will be the first Moon Child we meet through one of Aubrey's dreams, and it will be because of her that Aub even bothers to keep the game and progress through it. Ben, especially BEN in particular, is very hostile in the beginning. He's been trapped in his game for years now, and being bound to it, he cannot be very far from the physical cartridge, nor can he appear corporeally. His presence can be felt, but he cannot be seen, touched, heard, etc without him focusing very hard and willing that to be so, and when he can be seen, its not in any kind of human way. He's very eldritch, smokey and pixelated, warping with eyes and arms and mouths overlapping into each other, because of all the people in him. He's hostile because hes been trapped for so long, and hes scared and he can't find a way out or anyone he can trust. The first part of the fic is pretty much just Aubrey trying to find a way to get him out. And after they do, we'll see a lot more of both him and Aub learning how to be friends and coexist with each other. They're bros, total buddies, I love them and I love writing them 😭💖 but anyways. The fic is mostly just these two dumbasses being friends, bumping into other creepypastas and dealing with them, getting an apartment and dealing with each other, and eventually becoming ride or die for each other. It's both of their stories intertwined, with a few other people thrown into the fray.

Overall, my Ben is much more related to the actual ARG than the fanon a lot of people run with in this fandom, so if you want to understand more, I highly recommend watching the videos Alex put up last year, or even just checking out the wiki for the ARG. He is definitely not one-to-one with the ARG or the fandom, and I tried to keep him still relatively human, but struggling with the notion of being human once and not quite a human now. He's probably one of the most complex characters I've written tbh, but I love him so its worth it lolol 💖

ABOUT THE MOONCHILDREN CULT!

☾ Except for high-ranking individuals, sharing about the cult was prohibited for others.

☾ The ranks of the individuals within the cult were discernible from their necklaces or hairclips!

Metal blue: was for the most important people! Like the leader!

Gold: this one was also important but not as metal blue. This color usually used by the helpers of the leader!

Bronze: and this one was for members!

☾ In every ritual, they were asked to shed a small amount of blood from everyone.

☾ Prayers were said and songs were sung towards the moon at every feast.

☾ A round hole is dug for the purpose of gratitude towards the moon, and the members would dance around this water!

☾ In every full moon everyone in the cult used to come to the cult house and pray together.

☾ And in every bloody moon a fire is lit and the members take torches in their hands and dance around the fire. (Extra headcanon.. While dancing around the fire Nekko accidentally set himself on fire and this is why he scares from the fire)

☾ Everyone in the cult had their own personalized mask! And plus they all were forced to wear their necklace or hairclips everyday.

☾ It wasn't allowed to sing or play music inside of the cult house. Musical instruments were always used in the garden of the house!

☾ People who born with blue eyes or who had skin diseases such as albinism or vitiligo were included as important people in the cult ( Because they were thinking about that they resemble the moon ) and got privilege! They also got a accessory made up from silver!

☾ The acceptance of a cult member required approval from the leader and the helpers of the leader.

☾ In the ritual of entry into the cult, it is learned whether the person is resistant to pain and they would record it into a list.
